Drayton Manor theme park and resort is in the grounds of the former Drayton Manor, in Drayton Bassett, Staffordshire, England, and is one of the UK's most popular family attractions with over one million visitors a year. The park covers 280 acres of which about 113 acres are in use, and hosts about 1.5 million people each year. A new 4 Star Hotel was opened in 2013 on the grounds of the park which significantly increased overall energy consumption.
What were the environmental goals for the Park?
Over the past few years, Drayton Manor, near Tamworth, Staffordshire, has invested considerable resources into planning and implementing a wide range of environmentally friendly policies, which have all contributed to waste reduction. In 2014 the theme park became the first family owned theme park in the UK to achieve zero waste sent to landfill.
The significant energy consumption of the park also meant that they were obligated to comply with The Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) Energy Efficiency Scheme which is the UK Government’s mandatory carbon reporting scheme.
The park also qualified for The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS), which is the mandatory government energy assessment and energy savings identification scheme for qualifying organisations operating in the UK.
How were these goals implemented?
Drayton Manor Theme Park, resort and zoo is committed to reducing emissions by using energy and carbon management to minimise the impact its activities have on the environment.
And so in 2015 the parks environmental team engaged digitalenergy Ltd (through partner The Energy Desk) to provide a software led approach to both their CRC and ESOS compliance obligation using the digitalenergy professional energy management solution.
